How Culture Trip came about:
“It started with a bookshelf”
Academic psychiatrist Dr Kris Naudts stood in front of a bookshelf in his West Indian friend’s apartment and realised he hardly recognised any of the books in his friend’s collection. As a book lover himself, he wondered how this library of ideas and culture could have passed him by and how he could solve the problem.
And so the idea for Culture Trip was born – create a space online where people could go before they travelled somewhere new to find stories by local creators and feel more connected to the world around them.
Since 2011, Culture Trip has been using technology to enable a global network of local contributors – including writers, filmmakers, photographers, illustrators and animators – to create travel stories and recommendations that reveal what is unique and special about a place, its people and its culture. With this unique content at its core, Culture Trip has now evolved as a travel e-commerce brand.
